When I first began to research the concept of “finding balance”, it was overwhelming to discover how many “experts” are out there, how many ideas are different and many are the same, and how some align with my values and others don’t. I soon discovered that there is not one prescribed, correct way to find balance, other than the one that works for you. This website reflects what works for ME, and is my way of keeping myself accountable.
I was drawn to the concept of integrating daily activities to include the mind, body, soul and whatever else you need to balance yourself. I decided to include for myself:

- Intellectual – all things related to study, research, knowledge, logic, thought, plans and goals
- Physical – all things related to my physical body and my physical space around me
- Spiritual – all things related to inspiration, deeper meaning, connection to higher power and self.
- Social – all things related to connecting with others through communication, service, cooperation, etc.
- Emotional – all things related to the heart, feelings, perceptions, intuition, hopes and dreams, etc.
I embraced the idea that starting the day off right was key to having a great day…and that quickly fell flat. The idea resonated with me, yes, but without a plan I simply didn’t know what to do with myself once I got out of bed. I’m not a morning person. At all. If I was living in the Harry Potter universe my patronus would probably be a night owl. Without a plan to get going, a night owl like me feels cold and tired in the morning, and the temptation to crawl back into bed was just too much to resist. So, I created a morning plan that covers all the areas above to get me going:
- Open the blinds and let the sun in (spiritual, physical)
- Scripture Study (spiritual, intellectual)
- Prayer (spiritual)
- Make my bed (physical)
- Check in w/express love for family/spouse (social, emotional)
- Hydrate (physical)
- Exercise (physical)
- Shower/dress (physical)
- Vitamins/breakfast (physical)
- Count my blessings/write down 3 (emotional, intellectual)
- Make a to-do list (intellectual)
- Set 3 goals (intellectual)
- A 15-minute declutter mission (physical)

Naturally, an adjustment to my mornings has meant an adjustment to my nights as well, thus book-ending my day with both a morning and a balanced nighttime routine:
- Tidy up (physical)
- Reflect on the day (emotional/intellectual)
- Journal 3 events/feelings (emotional/intellectual)
- Ready physically for bed (physical)
- Check out with/express love for family/spouse (social/emotional)
- Prayer (spiritual)
- Read (intellectual)

Now that my days have a good start and finish, I am free to fill them up with things I’m passionate about…
